Position Overview:

The Biomanufacturing Technology Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting federal health research and development initiatives. This position involves serving as a Technical Science, Engineering, and Technology Adviser (SETA) to organizations focused on pioneering biomanufacturing technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance to conceptualize, develop, and implement advanced government-funded R&D programs aimed at enhancing health outcomes.
  • Analyze the current landscape of biomanufacturing technologies, identifying state-of-the-art innovations and promising methodologies.
  • Conduct assessments to propose ambitious performance and cost targets that push the boundaries of current capabilities.
  • Engage with leading technical experts from academia, industry, and national laboratories to foster new interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Review and evaluate complex technical proposals, advising on project plans and milestones for multifaceted R&D projects.
  • Oversee the technical aspects of project portfolios from initiation to completion, ensuring successful management and delivery of outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in biomanufacturing equipment design, bioprocess design, or related fields within the post-doctoral or post-medical lab sectors.
  • Proven experience in upstream, downstream, and formulation processes for biological products, particularly in genetic medicines.
  • Strong research skills, including proficiency in navigating multiple databases and scientific platforms.
  • Solid understanding of chemistry manufacturing and controls (CMC), emphasizing process development and quality by design principles.
  • Ability to pose challenging questions that stimulate innovative thinking.
  • Eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
  • Doctorate in Biomanufacturing, Bioprocessing, Biotechnology, or Biochemistry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of experience in a professional setting.
  • Experience with bioprocess equipment design, advanced analytical technologies, and automation systems.
  • Background in the biomanufacturing of genetic medicines, including mRNA and DNA vaccines.
  • Familiarity with cGMP and IND filing processes for biological products.
  • Experience working with Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) organizations.
  • Consulting experience in a relevant field.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and client service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Security Clearance:

Selected candidates will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information.
