Role Overview

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Deliver expert nursing services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Responsibilities may encompass, but are not limited to, nursing interventions and their documentation, health assessment, patient education/counseling, and provision of supportive and/or restorative care. The role also involves participation in staff training, preparation of clinical and administrative reports, adherence to infection control protocols, and collaboration as a member of a treatment team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Execute nursing responsibilities and collaborate as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Serve as a triage nurse; manage calls from the designated service area and provide nursing guidance to direct care staff/LPNs as necessary. Provide nursing coverage at designated medical facilities across the service district as required. Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned, with specifics to be discussed during the interview process.

This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Positions under this program may be filled through a non-competitive appointment process. This means that an examination is not required for qualification, but candidates must meet the essential qualifications for the title.

If appointed under the HELPS Program, you will initially be hired as a temporary employee. Upon successful performance in the role, your status may transition from temporary to permanent non-competitive. Once in permanent status, your official probationary period will commence, and you may take any promotional examination for which you qualify. Within a year of permanent appointment, employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status without the need for an examination.
  • Current New York State employees in a permanent competitive qualifying title may be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
  • For CSEA positions: Local Bidding Agreements will be respected.
  • Preference will be given to OPWDD employees affected by facility closures. If you are impacted by closure, please indicate this in your application.
  • All OPWDD employees must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining this eligibility.
