PRIMARY OBJECTIVE


Oversee retail operations within the designated department, making impactful decisions regarding team members, product quality, presentation, and customer service standards.

Foster positive relationships with associates and customers, promoting a robust culture aligned with Hannaford's strategic goals through team meetings, exemplary behavior, and effective performance management tools.

Ensure that store conditions related to appearance, security, safety, and food safety are upheld to the highest standards. Responsible for the appropriate management of company resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere to retain both associates and customers.
  • Guarantee compliance with all quality standards.
  • Direct department operations in line with established best practices.
  • Maintain the department's visual appeal and presentation.
  • Recruit, train, and develop team members to fulfill departmental requirements.
  • Achieve financial targets for the department.
  • Supervise the performance of all assigned department team members.
  • Exemplify exceptional customer service.
  • Exercise sound judgment in delegating tasks and overseeing departmental efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of production, shrinkage, sales, and inventory.
  • Meet the physical demands of the role, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Recognize achievements and provide constructive feedback when necessary.
  • Treat all colleagues with fairness, dignity, and respect.
  • Ensure that department associates receive training from certified trainers.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures as specified.
  • Develop comprehensive product knowledge across all areas of the assigned department.
  • Utilize RF (Radio Frequency) equipment as required.
  • Organize and manage product loads for assigned departments.
  • Assist in efficient ordering and inventory management to optimize sales and minimize shrinkage.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for all department associates in accordance with company standards.
  • Create effective work schedules to meet production and customer service goals while accommodating associates' personal needs.
  • Understand and utilize company tools such as MPP, financial reports, scheduling, ordering, and business information systems.
  • Ensure adherence to operational and merchandising best practices to maximize profitability, focusing on priority categories.
  • Maintain clear communication within the department and across the organization.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with company sanitation, safety, and food safety standards.
  • Understand the causes of shrinkage and strategies for mitigation.
  • Fully comprehend the department's standard practice manual and program manuals for each assigned area.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Possess a strong understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational abilities and a willingness to learn various tasks and technical requirements of the position.
  • Show good judgment in problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
  • Display the desire and capability to lead and manage associates across multiple departments.
  • Previous experience as a Department Manager or equivalent is required.
  • A college degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Must obtain accreditation as a "Certified Food Safety Manager" within the first 90 days of employment, if not already certified.
Physical Requirements

  • Proficient in using computers and communication systems necessary for job functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. regularly, including overhead lifting, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Push/pull up to 40 lbs. regularly.
  • Meet established volume and activity standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Assist in achieving financial goals: sales, payroll percentage, gross margin, shrink, and control of other expenses.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Promote a sales-driven, customer-focused culture through relationship building and fostering an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer engagement.
  • Treat all associates with fairness, dignity, and respect. Recognize accomplishments and provide constructive feedback when necessary.

  • Support the developmental needs of department associates.

  • Ensure compliance with company security, safety, and food safety standards.
  • Maintain merchandising techniques and layouts consistent with corporate philosophy.
  • Understand the causes of inventory shrinkage and strategies for resolution.
  • Familiarity with company tools such as MPP, financial reports, scheduling, ordering, and business information systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of standard practices for all departments.
  • Maintain effective communication with the management team and all associates.
  • Treat all store information as confidential.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Salary range is between $27.25 Hrly
