Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team at the City of Minneapolis. As a Police Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining public safety and serving the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas to enforce laws, detect and prevent crime, and protect life and property.
  • Apprehend and arrest law violators, prepare written reports of crimes, and assist in the prosecution of violators.
  • Conduct follow-up investigations for criminal prosecution of traffic and criminal complaints.
  • Enforce traffic laws, conduct traffic stops, and investigate accidents.
  • Collect, evaluate, and preserve evidence at crime scenes.
  • Conduct surveillance and undercover operations to identify and apprehend suspects.
  • Interview and interrogate witnesses, victims, and suspects, and draft formal statements for presentation in court.
  • Record and investigate complaints from citizens, including those on the conduct and actions of officers.
  • Respond to residential and business alarms for intrusion, robbery, or other emergencies.
  • Protect the rights and safety of all individuals, including political figures and dignitaries.
  • Recover and assume custody of lost, stolen, or abandoned property.
Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Previous law enforcement experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, including a review of employment history, honesty, driving record, and conviction history.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and have no felony convictions.
  • Must pass a medical and psychological examination, including a drug and alcohol screening test.
Working Conditions

Police work is physically and mentally demanding. You must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, use your hands to finger, handle, or feel, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, reach with your hands and arms, and lift up to 25 pounds. You must also have close distance color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Selection Process

Candidates will be selected based on their training, experience, and qualifications. The selection process will include a review of applications, training and experience, department interviews, background investigations, and medical and psychological examinations.
