Job Title: Police OfficerJob Summary:

The City of Bloomington is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our Police Department as Police Officers. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting the community, and upholding the values of the department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct routine patrol activities within assigned areas of the City
  • Respond to identified problems and to situations that may be perceived as problems by members of the community, whether criminal or non-criminal
  • Provide for the safe and convenient flow of traffic and pedestrians within the community
  • Conduct criminal and non-criminal investigative activities
  • Prepare written reports, forms, memorandums and other documents as required
  • Presents evidence in legal proceedings
  • Provides support and assistance to other peace officers; local, state or federal; personnel of the criminal justice system and employees of other communities and agencies
  • Provides for persons held in custody
  • Utilizes automated systems
  • Maintains public order within the community
  • Provides emergency services
  • Performs law enforcement services in extraordinary situations
  • Operates motor vehicles safely under various conditions and circumstances
  • Performs other duties as apparent and assigned
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and procedures related to the release of information of police records
  • Knowledge of law enforcement administrative policies and procedures, local police agencies, legal terminology, local government, and operations of City divisions
  • Knowledge of Data Privacy Laws
  • Ability to evaluate a situation and to exercise good judgment and discretion commensurate with lawful authority, physical abilities and practical requirements of the situation
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with the public, employees and others in an effective, tactful and courteous manner
  • Ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City departments, government agencies, and the general public
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
  • History of demonstrating Respect, Compassion, Honesty, and Service
Education and Experience:
  • Life experience exhibiting respect. Demonstrated through compassionate and honest service
  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Minnesota Peace Officer's Standard and Training Board (POST License)
