ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:


Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, holding a current State license (RN preferred) (LPN acceptable), with a minimum of two years of experience in chemical dependency treatment. Experience with both adults and adolescents is advantageous.

  • Ability to remain seated for 1⁄2 to 4 hours during an 8-hour shift.
  • Vision must be 20/40 corrected in each eye and hearing capabilities (hearing aids are acceptable).
  • Capability to administer First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to walk approximately 1 mile within the facility during an 8-hour shift.
  • Must be emotionally and physically prepared to operate under stressful conditions.
  • If in recovery, a minimum of two (2) years of continuous abstinence is required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Execute all nursing service duties. Adhere to nursing policies and procedures concerning detoxification and other nursing services. Implement physician's orders and protocols as instructed. Engage in Performance Improvement and Infection Control activities as necessary.


Understand and comply with the general provisions of 42 CFR Part 2, "Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records," and 45 CFR "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act." This role entails unrestricted access to patient-identifying and health information.


KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct and document a thorough and accurate Nursing Assessment within twenty-four (24) hours of patient admission.
  • Evaluate withdrawal severity and intervene in accordance with physician's policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Establish and nurture rapport with patients and their families.
  • Monitor vital signs (B/P, Pulse, Respirations) and administer medications as prescribed by the physician.
  • Perform venipuncture on patients safely.
  • Administer oral medications, intramuscular injections, and intravenous medications, including IV fluids.
  • Transcribe physician orders, manage medication orders, and maintain accountability for controlled substances.
  • Conduct routine monitoring and testing, such as blood glucose monitoring, audiometric screening, and EKG.
  • Provide health and medical education to patients and their families as appropriate.
  • Participate in timely and accurate documentation of patient records related to nursing assessments, treatment planning, interventions, patient responses, and progress in treatment, including physician orders.
  • Engage in Clinical Team Staffing and staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Conduct regular performance improvement monitoring and evaluation activities and participate in Task Groups as needed.
  • Adhere to the Board of Nursing Standards of Practice.
  • Maintain a safe and conducive environment for well-being, offering health education and counseling to patients and staff.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance, ensuring clear and articulate communication, alertness, and responsiveness to patient needs.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, managers, clients, and prospective clients.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness to perform the job safely.
