Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counselor to join our team. As a Genetic Counselor - Oncology Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing genetic counseling to high-risk patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Provide genetic counseling to high-risk patients and their families, working closely with physicians to develop personalized treatment plans.
- Investigate family histories, interpret genetic information, and explain risks to patients, advising them on the importance of informing family members of risks.
- Coordinate genetic counseling, testing, and testing results visits, utilizing risk management models and decision trees to determine risk and prior probabilities for patients seeking genetic testing.
- Collaborate with medical teams to develop recommendations for patients and their family members regarding screening and management of risks, communicating with physicians and/or nurse practitioners to assess appropriate genetic testing and cancer screening and management recommendations.
- Provide genetic counseling services within the standards of practice of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and appropriate state licensure role, preparing and maintaining all clinical documentation records securely respecting confidentiality and privacy of patients.
- Assist patients with insurance reimbursement and pre-authorization for genetic tests, including proof of medical necessity.
- Serve as an educational resource on genetics and genetic counseling, maintaining databases of patients seen and statistical information as needed, analyzing data and providing reports to administrators related to referral volumes, testing outcomes, and research enrollment.
- Participate in clinic visits, conferences, and boards as appropriate, based on specified areas of focus (i.e., oncology, obstetrics).
- Master's degree in Genetics or Genetic Counseling.
- Genetic Counselor License issued by the PA State Board of Medicine or temporary permit issued by the PA State Board of Medicine within 8 weeks of hire, and permanent licensure within one year of employment.
