Job Title: Genetic Counselor

We are seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counselor to join our team at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. As a Genetic Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing genetic counseling to high-risk patients and their families.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will possess strong clinical knowledge and skills in oncology genetics, customer service, organizational & multi-tasking skills, collaborative teamwork, and flexibility & resilience as the program grows and evolves.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide genetic counseling to high-risk patients and their families
  • Investigate family history, interpret information concerning genetic disorders, explain risks and advise patient of the importance of informing family members of risks
  • Coordinate genetic counseling, genetic testing and genetic testing results visits
  • Utilize available risk management models and decision trees to determine risk and prior probabilities for patients seeking genetic testing
  • Collaborate with medical team in developing recommendations for patients and their family members regarding screening and management of risks
  • Communicate with physician and/or nurse practitioner in assessing appropriate genetic testing, and/or cancer screening and management
Requirements:
  • Master's degree preferably in Genetics or Genetic Counseling
  • Genetic Counselor License issued by the PA State Board of Medicine OR temporary permit issued by the PA State Board of Medicine within 8 weeks of hire, and permanent licensure within one year of employment
  • Certification by the by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) within one (1) year of employment
