Position Overview: Lead Land Survey Manager
Role PurposeThe Lead Land Survey Manager will deliver high-quality, precise, and timely surveying services to support various capital improvement and maintenance initiatives. This role involves researching and interpreting both internal and external property records to accurately determine company property boundaries and rights of way, as well as assessing third-party requests and impacts. The individual will offer expert guidance on the positioning of existing and proposed company assets in relation to property and right of way boundaries.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee surveying operations to support capital and maintenance projects across electric, gas, substation, LNG, forestry, and facilities departments.
- Provide expert consultation throughout project phases, including concept, design, construction, and as-built, ensuring all necessary survey deliverables are met.
- Interpret design drawings and validate them prior to facilitating construction layout.
- Assist in developing and maintaining specifications to ensure deliverables meet company standards.
- Prepare exhibits or plans for the acquisition or disposal of rights in a CAD environment, preferably using AutoCAD.
- Conduct field tasks, inspections, and measurements as required.
- Update GIS records concerning real property assets as necessary.
- Respond to external inquiries regarding company rights of way to assist in accurate determinations by third parties.
- Provide surveying consultation to colleagues in Right of Way, Engineering, Legal, Environmental, and Design teams.
- Review survey-related maps and engineering reports to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Assess customer needs and provide cost estimates and timelines as required.
- Procure and manage survey services, ensuring deliverables are met.
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy and facilitate payment as necessary.
- Ensure that project timelines, financial targets, and safety objectives are met.
- Associate degree (2 years) from an accredited institution in Surveying, Mapping, Mathematics, Engineering Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum of five years of experience in the Land Surveying field is preferred.
- Current registration as a Land Surveyor in relevant states is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with aerial mapping techniques, including Photogrammetry, Lidar, and UAS (Drones).
- Ability to interpret both paper and electronic mapping systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to use a personal vehicle for company business.
- Willingness to travel within the service territory.
