Insurance Underwriting Director

Job Summary:

As an Underwriting Manager at USI Holdings Corporation, you will be responsible for leading a team of underwriters in assessing and managing complex risks. Your expertise in insurance industry market and appetite will be crucial in establishing product risk factors and identifying insurance product needs in the marketplace. You will work closely with brokers and carriers to develop and negotiate premiums, and provide appropriate insurance products to clients. Your goal will be to generate profit in accordance with company goals while ensuring compliance with state departments of insurance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of underwriters in assessing and managing complex risks.
  • Establish product risk factors, including proper risk exposure and compliance with state departments of insurance.
  • Identify insurance product needs in the marketplace and develop and negotiate premiums.
  • Work closely with brokers and carriers to provide appropriate insurance products to clients.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to execute agreed program strategy and identification of program opportunities.
  • Engage in professional development, including relevant industry and organizational education and training.

Requirements:

  • 7 years + underwriting experience, including 2 years + of supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of insurance industry market and appetite.
  • Ability to establish product risk factors, including proper risk exposure and compliance with state departments of insurance.
  • Ability to effectively identify insurance product needs in the marketplace.
  • Ability to negotiate and strong mathematical skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Proficiency in utilizing company systems.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time.
