Position Overview:

The Texas Military Department is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Security Specialist III. This position involves the safeguarding of vital assets, facilities, personnel, and equipment associated with the Texas Military Department and the Department of Defense.

Organization: Texas Military Department

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Installation Entry Controller, managing the access of employees, visitors, and other personnel to ensure the security of the premises.
  • Engage with the public daily, issuing visitor passes, providing directions, and addressing any concerns or complaints.
  • Conduct safety evaluations and provide recommendations to enhance security measures.
  • Direct traffic and manage crowd control as necessary.
  • Perform regular patrols to monitor for suspicious activities.
  • Report emergencies, incidents, and accidents to supervisory personnel.
  • Conduct after-hours checks of buildings and secured facilities.
  • Apprehend or detain individuals in accordance with applicable laws and organizational procedures.
  • Assist law enforcement agencies during special visits and events.
  • Prepare detailed reports on incidents and gather statements from involved parties.
  • Provide first aid when required.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions related to security enforcement duties.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisory staff.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency with assigned weapon systems.
  • Adhere to agency policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: A minimum of one year in a law enforcement, military, or security role is necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is also required.

Licensure: A valid driver's license is mandatory, with a Texas Driver's License required within the first month of employment. Candidates must also be able to obtain a Level III Commissioned Officer License within six months of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a federal security background investigation.
  • Annual qualification with duty weapons.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Physical fitness to perform essential job functions.

Work Environment:

This role involves varied settings, including outdoor work in different weather conditions. Security Specialists must be capable of lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and performing tasks that require physical agility.
