Position Overview

The Art and Innovation Lab (CCAIL) at Culver City Unified School District aims to cultivate the creative and artistic abilities of students in grades TK-5. This program will engage students in hands-on artistic explorations, engineering design challenges, and innovative design thinking projects. The CCAIL educator will support and inspire students as they enhance their design sensitivity, personal agency, and visual communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The CCAIL is designed to nurture the creative and artistic skills of elementary students. The program will provide engaging experiences through visual art explorations and engineering challenges. The CCAIL educator will guide students in developing their design sensitivity and visual communication abilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Art and Innovation Lab educators will:
  • Design and implement engaging curriculum tailored for elementary students, aligned with Visual Art, Maker Learning, and Science Engineering standards.
  • Facilitate collaborative activities for English Learners to enhance their academic language through peer interaction.
  • Work in partnership with classroom teachers to integrate CCAIL experiences with classroom instruction and extend cross-curricular lessons.
  • Contribute to curriculum development at both the school and district levels.
  • Encourage a growth mindset within the classroom environment.
  • Deliver instruction and support TK-5 students in the Art and Innovation Lab.
CORE DUTIES:
  • Coordinate with site leadership and district personnel for workshops in the Art and Innovation Lab, including professional development and staff training.
  • Collaborate with school staff to create relevant programming and establish the Art & Innovation Lab as a hands-on learning resource.
  • Research and innovate visual art and maker activities.
  • Manage inventory and upkeep of all Art and Makerspace materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain district curriculum and collaborate with the CCAIL educator team to develop new projects suitable for TK-5 students.
  • Provide individualized support to students in ideation, prototyping, and project presentation.
  • Ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Offer technical support for project documentation (video, photo, blog/vlog, digital portfolio).
  • Guide students in time management and project planning skills.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
  • Assist in organizing Art and Innovation Family events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience or strong interest in working with elementary school students.
  • In-depth knowledge of Visual Art Standards, ELD Standards, and CCSS.
  • Experience with diverse and culturally relevant curriculum.
  • Skills in visual art, technology, engineering, design, and craft.
  • Familiarity with tools such as ceramic kilns, 3D printing, and various educational technology.
  • Understanding of the Elements of Art, Principles of Design, and Studio Habits of Mind.
  • Knowledge of the Engineering Design Process and Growth Mindset.
  • Strong classroom management capabilities.
  • Motivation to collaborate with a diverse and committed team.
  • Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative mindset.
  • Highly organized with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
CREDENTIALS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California Teaching credential is required, with a preference for visual art experience. Valid English Learner authorization is also necessary. Bilingual candidates are preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Setting:
  • Office and classroom environment, subject to frequent interruptions.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, walk around campuses, and use hands and fingers for operating equipment.
Potential Hazards:
  • Exposure to emotionally charged situations involving students and parents.

Applicants must provide a valid California Single Subject: Art credential or equivalent, along with a CLAD/English Language Learner certification.
