MRI Research Academic Position
All Ranks
All Tracks

The University of Missouri – Columbia is enhancing its research faculty within the Department of Radiology. We are seeking an MRI research academic at all ranks and tracks. Our facilities include a state-of-the-art 7T MRI (Terra, Siemens) located in our NextGen Precision Health Institute, alongside a 3T MRI (Vida, Siemens) and PET/CT (Biograph, Siemens). This advanced imaging center caters to clinical patients, human research subjects, and large animal research subjects, with dedicated resources for research activities.

Our MRI research program is rapidly expanding, focusing on innovative strategies and hardware solutions to address challenges associated with B0 and RF inhomogeneity at ultra-high field strengths. Current research at our institution includes spectroscopy, spectroscopic imaging, perfusion, and functional MRI (fMRI), with applications in neuroimaging related to addiction, aging, dementia, and brain tumors. Additionally, we are conducting successful research in hyperpolarized gas MRI and advanced reconstruction techniques for cardiac MRI.

The 7T NextGen Precision Health MR system features a 60cm bore FDA-approved design, equipped with XR Connectome level gradients capable of reaching 80mT/m and 200T/m/s slew rates. This system can operate in both single (8kW peak) and 8-channel parallel transmit (8x2kW) modes, with a variety of available coils and multi-nuclear options. All neuro research studies utilize advanced transceiver arrays and sophisticated shimming techniques to ensure high-quality imaging.

Standard physiological monitoring is integrated, including ECG, pulse, and respiratory monitoring, with user-controlled triggering capabilities. The system also supports fMRI paradigms through a specialized presentation system.

Minimum Qualifications: A PhD in Physics/Medical Physics, Engineering, or a related field with a background in MRI research is required.

Candidates will be assessed based on their technical expertise in MRI or MRS, as well as their interest in clinical or research applications. Experience with high-field MRI is preferred but not mandatory. We seek individuals who are highly creative, possess exceptional problem-solving skills, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, particularly the ability to convey complex scientific concepts effectively.
