Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Support Technician Lead to provide guidance and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the administrative, clinical and non-clinical laboratory support services.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in phlebotomy and laboratory specimen processing, with excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities will include collecting blood samples, processing specimens, and maintaining laboratory equipment.

The Laboratory Support Technician Lead will also be responsible for training new team members, monitoring client supply utilization, and participating in training and educational activities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collects blood samples by performing venipunctures or finger or heel sticks on patients.
  2. Checks the quality of blood and assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of the patient, following established standards and practices.
  3. Processes all samples within the department, either manually or using automation equipment, including send-outs.
  4. Obtains venous and/or capillary blood specimens according to established procedures.
  5. Utilizes a computerized system for logging and tracking specimen collection and patient information.
  6. Performs accurate and complete order entry and performs order checking of requisitions for proper data entry.
  7. May operate simple medical laboratory equipment, such as a centrifuge and microscope.
  8. Effectively communicates with laboratory and medical staff to resolve problems and concerns regarding specimens and to properly identify and label specimens for processing, delivery, or storage.
  9. Monitors pending work and resolves specimen issues as needed.
  10. Sorts laboratory reports/mail and distributes them to appropriate mailboxes.
  11. Performs inventory and ordering of supplies, including requisitions for distribution to clients.
  12. Fills all supply requests for client needs.
  13. Responds to telephone inquiries for test results, specimen status, or other general inquiries.
  14. Communicates abnormal values to providers as necessary.
  15. Assist with training new team members as needed.
  16. Performs maintenance and troubleshoots instruments as needed.
  17. Maintains logs as needed.
  18. Assists in monitoring client supply utilization.
  19. Performs testing following laboratory procedures and in compliance with CLIA regulations.
  20. Provides daily oversight and assistance to LST staff, including the creation of staff schedules.
  21. Participates in training, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities, and provides in-services.
  22. Participates in the hiring of new staff and recommends and participates in counseling and coaching sessions.
  23. Provides guidance, support and oversees the day-to-day operations of the administrative, clinical and non-clinical support services.
