Position Title: Healthcare Support Specialist

Work Schedule: Full-time, 4/10 hour shifts

Role Summary:

The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting healthcare providers by delivering exceptional patient care through accurate data collection and vital sign monitoring. This position serves as a crucial link between patients and providers, facilitating follow-up communications and prescription management. Responsibilities also include maintaining cleanliness and readiness of patient care areas, conducting inventory checks, and supporting unscheduled patient visits. The specialist will perform laboratory tests and ensure quality control measures are documented, coordinate patient referrals, and maintain thorough records of immunizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and document laboratory quality control procedures, addressing any out-of-range results.
  • Ensure compliance with VFC eligibility standards.
  • Follow Universal Precautions and Biohazard waste protocols.
  • Maintain adequate medical supplies in examination rooms and submit weekly inventory reports.
  • Understand and adhere to established Standing Orders.
  • Utilize USIIS to enhance immunization rates.
  • Familiarize with and follow ACIP Immunization guidelines.
  • Employ two patient identifiers during all patient interactions.
  • Accurately complete patient encounter documentation with all necessary billing details.
  • Ensure patient visit documentation aligns with charting protocols.
  • Review and update current medications during patient visits.
  • Monitor referrals and diagnostic imaging to guarantee timely results.
  • Track laboratory results to ensure prompt reporting.
  • Accurately process lab specimens with appropriate coding and billing information.
  • Correctly scan and attach documents into the electronic system.
  • Obtain and document patient vitals with precision.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries promptly, ensuring clear and complete documentation.
  • Assist in training new staff, students, and volunteers as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a medical assistant program or equivalent experience (minimum of 1 year in a similar role) or current CNA or phlebotomist certification.
  • Experience working with medically underserved populations is preferred.
  • No specific license required.

Essential Skills:

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish are essential. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment, work efficiently under pressure, and possess a willingness to learn new computer skills. Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel is required.
