Job Summary

The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Specialist to join our Histocompatibility (HLA) Laboratory team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of quality and compliance in our laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage regulatory compliance, including monitoring lab performance and final review of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual surveillance documents.
  • Propose remedial action plans and work with the supervisor, technical director, lab director, and/or division leadership to correct any failures.
  • Manage laboratory accreditation, including submitting annual accreditation applications to ASHI and reporting regulatory deficiencies to the technical director and director.
  • Coordinate and document competency assessments, ensuring that staff undergo appropriate assessments in a timely manner.
  • Plan and/or provide HLA-specific continuing education for staff, ensuring compliance with annual requirements.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for employees by establishing and enforcing all relevant safety procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical science, medical technology, or clinical laboratory science.
  • Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) certification required (ACHI).
  • Minimum of six years progressively responsible experience in a Histocompatibility (HLA) testing environment, with at least 1-3 years in a lead/supervisory role.
  • Preferred qualifications include two or more years of prior experience in a supervisory capacity or in a project management or quality role in a histocompatibility testing setting.
