Job Title: Biomedical Technician

The Biomedical Technician is a critical member of the Springfield Clinic team, responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of medical devices used in patient care. This role requires a strong technical background and excellent problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment and instrumentation to ensure optimal performance and patient safety.
  • Approve new biomedical equipment by conducting thorough tests and ensuring adherence to relevant codes and regulations.
  • Conduct safety tests to identify potential electrical or mechanical hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with medical and research staff to improve biomedical equipment performance and develop modifications to enhance patient care.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to healthcare staff on the use and maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of repair actions, submit reports, and prepare biomedical reports to summarize information and trends.
  • Engage in proactive daily communications with colleagues and vendors to ensure resolution and proper follow-ups.
  • Stay up-to-date with current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction and ongoing training.
Requirements:
  • Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or Biomedical Engineering Technology or equivalent training required.
  • Five (5) years previous work experience with biomedical equipment in a clinical engineering environment preferred.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) required.
Working Environment:
  • On-site work area environment.
  • Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Potential for exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Prolonged walking or standing, repeated stooping, squatting, stretching.
