Job Summary

The Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance and management of medical devices. This role involves the installation, calibration, repair, and inspection of complex medical equipment, as well as resolving intricate technical issues in various settings. The technician will conduct routine preventive maintenance and repairs, coordinate equipment evaluations and installations, and assist in developing operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) by inspecting newly acquired medical devices for safety and functionality, ensuring proper labeling and inventory management.
  • Conduct comprehensive performance assurance and electrical safety tests, and assist in creating testing protocols.
  • Address medical equipment issues in clinical and research environments, employing expert diagnostic skills to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Perform complex repairs and calibrations on medical devices, ensuring high standards of technical proficiency.
  • Participate in the installation and software updates of medical devices, providing technical insights during evaluations.
  • Regularly assess the operation of medical devices in assigned areas, identifying trends and implementing solutions for recurring issues.
  • Educate clinical and technical staff on the safe operation, maintenance, and care of medical equipment.
  • Document all work performed with precision, maintaining accurate inventory records of repair parts.
  • Complete advanced training on medical device operation and maintenance, sharing knowledge with team members to enhance departmental procedures.
  • May oversee and guide the work of junior technicians and interns, coordinating project implementations.
  • Identify and address system, safety, and quality issues, proposing solutions to improve departmental operations.
  • Assist in investigations of clinical incidents involving medical equipment under the guidance of engineering or departmental leadership.
  • Participate in departmental committees as needed.
  • Provide on-call support for in-house repairs and assistance as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years working with biomedical equipment in a healthcare setting.
  • Education: Associate's Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, advanced troubleshooting abilities, and a thorough understanding of biomedical safety principles.
  • Ability to work independently, manage technical projects, and teach others effectively.
