Role Summary

The Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for the management and maintenance of medical devices. This includes installation, calibration, repair, and inspection of complex medical equipment, as well as troubleshooting intricate technical issues in the field. The role involves performing scheduled maintenance and repairs, coordinating equipment evaluations, and developing operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) by inspecting newly acquired medical devices for safety and functionality, ensuring proper labeling and inventory management.
  • Conduct comprehensive performance assurance and electrical safety testing, along with preventive maintenance on medical devices.
  • Address medical equipment issues in clinical and research settings, utilizing expert diagnostic skills to resolve complex problems.
  • Execute repairs and calibrations on advanced medical devices, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Participate in the installation and software updates of medical devices, providing valuable technical feedback.
  • Regularly assess the operation of medical devices in assigned areas, identifying trends and implementing solutions for recurring issues.
  • Educate clinical and technical staff on the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medical equipment.
  • Document all work performed with precision, maintaining accurate inventory records of repair parts.
  • Engage in ongoing training to enhance knowledge of medical device management and share insights with team members.
  • May oversee and guide the tasks of junior technicians and interns, facilitating project implementation.
  • Identify safety and quality concerns, proposing solutions to enhance departmental operations.
  • Assist in investigations of clinical incidents involving medical equipment under the guidance of engineering or departmental leadership.
  • Participate in departmental committees as needed.
  • Provide on-call support for in-house repairs as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years working with biomedical equipment in a healthcare environment.
  • Education: Associate's Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, advanced troubleshooting skills, and a solid understanding of biomedical safety principles.
  • Ability to work independently and manage technical projects effectively.
  • Familiarity with computer-based tools and the capacity to teach technical concepts to others.
