Job Title: Ship Fitter 1st Class

Lyon Shipyard is a leading provider of ship repair and fabrication services, and we are seeking a highly skilled Ship Fitter 1st Class to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Ship Fitter 1st Class will be responsible for building and repairing ships, including interior structures, hatches, doors, and bulkheads. The successful candidate will have strong math skills and a good mechanical aptitude, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build and repair ships, including interior structures, hatches, doors, and bulkheads
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment, including millers, sanders, grinders, and welding equipment
  • Work in a team environment to complete projects on time and within budget
  • Perform basic layout of plates, materials, and weldments using engineering sketches, drawings, and diagrams
  • Monitor working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations
Requirements:
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Apprentice or trade school
  • Combo Class - 7+ years of experience in trade, 1st Class - 5+ years of experience in trade, 2nd Class - 3+ years of experience in trade, 3rd Class - 1+ years of experience in trade
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a shipyard or military setting
Work Environment:

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with regular exposure to outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat. The successful candidate will be required to work in a variety of settings, including dry docks, shops, and onboard ships.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this role include sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The successful candidate will be required to lift and move up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting and moving of up to 70 pounds.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although periodic out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
