Job Title: Overnight Waste Collection CDL Driver

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CDL driver to join our team at Interstate Waste Services, Inc. as an Overnight Waste Collection CDL Driver. This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position with an overnight schedule starting between 7pm and 9pm, with shifts varying from 10 to 12 hours per evening or until the route is complete.

Job Summary:

The Overnight Waste Collection CDL Driver will be responsible for safely operating a rear-loading truck, collecting waste and recyclable materials from customers, and transporting them to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities. The driver will work independently, with minimal supervision, and will be expected to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate a rear-loading truck, adhering to Interstate Waste Services' safety standards, OSHA, and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle, documenting any issues on the standard DVIR form.
  • Ensure containers and their contents are secure, checking tarps and ties periodically, and climbing onto containers or reaching overhead as needed.
  • Conduct pre- and post-route inspections of assigned truck, documenting any safety issues on standard reports.
  • Monitor for safety and service-related issues, reporting any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers, responding to complaints and concerns in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Attend required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area, adhering to Corporate and OSHA standards.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Hold a valid Class A or B CDL and have a clean driving record.
  • At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL A or B, within the last 7 years, with experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuse company highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations.
  • Ability to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Ability to read and understand a map.
  • Meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
  • Willingness to work required hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as allowed under DOT regulations.
Physical Requirements:
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and mount and dismount the truck multiple times every route.
  • Work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the duration of the workday.
