Interstate Waste Services is seeking skilled Class A Truck Operators

Location: Jersey City, NJ

The Class A CDL Operators will be responsible for driving tractor trailers to transport containers of municipal and commercial waste between local transfer stations and rail yards.

Key Highlights:

  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts from 5:30 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Hourly Compensation: $28.38
  • Overtime is applicable after 40 hours in a work week
  • Minimum Requirement: 1 Year of Class A, Tractor Trailer Driving Experience with a strong safety record (3-5 years preferred)
  • Preferred: Experience with Intermodal Containers

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate the truck in accordance with IWS safety protocols, OSHA, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
  • This is a full-time, year-round position.
  • This union role offers competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, including medical insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
  • All routes are local, ensuring daily home time.
  • Ensure the intermodal container and its contents are securely fastened on the Tractor & Chassis Unit, which may involve climbing onto containers and reaching overhead.
  • Conduct pre- and post-route inspections of the assigned vehicle and document any safety concerns.
  • Continuously monitor for safety and service-related issues, reporting any necessary repairs to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
  • All employees are expected to uphold safety for themselves, their colleagues, and the equipment. Immediate reporting of any incidents or damages is required.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers and Dispatchers, addressing any service-related complaints courteously.

Work Environment:

  • The Driver position may require lifting up to 50 pounds and involves frequent mounting and dismounting of the truck.
  • All trucks are equipped with route tracking software and video monitoring as part of our commitment to safety.
  • Compliance with DOT safety regulations, including motor vehicle record reviews and drug testing, is strictly enforced.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • All Drivers must possess a valid Class A CDL with air brake endorsement and maintain a clean driving record.
  • At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL-A within the last 7 years is necessary. Experience with a waste management company is highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with DOT, OSHA, and relevant traffic regulations is essential.
  • Proficiency in English to communicate effectively with the public and understand traffic signals is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps is necessary.
  • Must meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
  • Willingness to work required hours as per DOT regulations, which may include weekends, nights, and holidays.
