Position Overview:
The SIS Graduate Advising Office is in search of a dedicated graduate student to offer part-time professional support (7-10 hours per week) in managing office operations throughout the academic year. The Office Assistant will collaborate closely with the Graduate Advising Coordinator and the Office Manager to deliver essential administrative assistance to the Graduate Advising team, while demonstrating a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcoming visitors and assisting students, faculty, and staff with their inquiries, as well as managing incoming phone calls.
- Executing general office tasks, including filing, photocopying, scanning, word processing, and data entry.
- Sorting and distributing incoming mail and packages efficiently.
- Establishing, maintaining, and organizing all office documentation.
- Providing project assistance under the guidance of the Director and the Advising Coordinator.
Compensation:
- Hourly wage ranging from $17.50 to $18.50.
Educational Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in a graduate degree program at American University.
Essential Skills:
- Ability to uphold a high level of confidentiality.
- Strong initiative, maturity, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Google Apps.
- Availability during office hours from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Eligibility for Federal Work Study (FWS).
- Advanced skills in Excel and quantitative data analysis.
