Job Summary

This position is with the Defense Legal Services Agency (DLSA) at the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). The General Counsel (GC) of the DoD, appointed by the President, is the chief legal officer and principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense, overseeing legal policy and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and services related to government contract issues, including award and administration of contracts, and resolution of contract disputes.
  • Ensure compliance with DOD Standards of Conduct and Joint Ethics Regulation, and conduct training on federal law, regulations, and DOD policies.
  • Provide legal counsel and advice on acquisition and fiscal law, including privatization and insourcing or outsourcing initiatives.
  • Assist in litigation of cases and implementation of court decisions, and provide technical assistance to government attorneys.
  • Prepare and implement legislation involving acquisition reform and government contracts matters.
  • Prepare memoranda and reports on issues referred by operating officials, and respond to congressional inquiries.
Requirements
  • Must possess a first professional law degree, i.e. Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctorate (J.D.), from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Must be an active member, in good standing, of the bar of the highest court of any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and any territory or possession of the United States.
  • Must have professional legal experience in excess of 3 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
