Position Overview: The Quality Assurance Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and quality of food products while adhering to both company and regulatory standards. This position oversees the Food Safety and Quality initiatives and is responsible for effectively communicating quality outcomes and imparting quality knowledge to the workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation of the plant laboratory, ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Manage relationships with third-party sanitation providers.
  • Guarantee product safety and compliance with regulations as outlined in the Food Safety Modernization Act.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality and optimizing processes.
  • Provide leadership in the coaching, education, and training of management and plant personnel in Quality Assurance, seeking additional resources as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain HACCP, FDA, and USDA programs and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all SQF and BRC audit standards.
  • Review product labels to ensure adherence to regulatory and company standards.
  • Supervise compliance with regulations for all incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Conduct appropriate chemical, bacteriological, sensory, and utilization tests on raw materials and finished products.
  • Communicate quality metrics and inspection results to relevant managers and leadership, including regular KPI reporting.
  • Ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed and adequate sanitation tests are conducted; troubleshoot sanitation system failures as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of all required tests and activities.
  • Assist in managing local, state, customer/third-party, and federal audits and inspections.
  • Oversee expense management and control, including labor, while utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques.
  • Ensure adherence to all contract packaging quality standards.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally as a change agent within the organization.
  • Exemplify the company's Mission, Vision, and Values by adhering to policies and standards.
  • Proactively address issues with a focus on safety.
  • Maintain audit readiness at all times.
  • Engage in typical managerial responsibilities such as planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field and a minimum of 10 years of experience in Quality Assurance, including 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge and application of the Food Safety Modernization Act.
  • SQF Practitioner and/or GFSI certification.
  • Process Control Qualified Individual.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Working knowledge of sanitation systems and clean-in-place techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of change management and document control principles.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving organizational and operational needs and lead others through change.
  • Strong multitasking abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and prioritization.
  • Strong team player and leader capable of working across various functions.
  • Ability to select, coach, develop, engage, and retain a high-performing team.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
