Electronics Technician

Job Description:
As an Engineering Technician B, you will perform a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electro-mechanical, research, or machine operations fields. Your responsibilities will include constructing, troubleshooting, calibrating, adjusting, testing, and maintaining equipment, components, devices, or systems. This is an entry-level position, and you will work under close supervision, receiving detailed instructions and constant checking on your work. Your primary contacts will be within your immediate work unit.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine technical functions related to the support of engineering activities, such as fabrication, setup, operation, maintenance, modification, testing, and troubleshooting simple systems, experiments, prototypes, or equipment.
- Assist engineers in the installation, repair, modification, and preventative maintenance of equipment and other products in lab and at field locations as required.
- Assist engineers in the assembly of components or sub-components for prototype models.
- Conduct routine engineering tests, solving basic mechanical or electronic problems involved in the operation of the product.
- Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal instructions/descriptions, layouts, or defined plans.
- Operate related equipment, conducting tests and reporting data in a prescribed format.
- Assist in general laboratory work.
- Demonstrate good safety practices.
- Maintain routine records as necessary.
- May operate a forklift.
- Skills: Apply basic electronic/mechanical theory.
- Read blueprints, drawings, or schematics.
- Use basic hand tools and test equipment and assembly techniques.
- Practical application of arithmetic, including arithmetic functions with fractions and converting linear units of measure.
- Good written and verbal communications skills.
- Familiar with MS Office products.
- Physical Abilities: Use of arms, hands, and fingers; lift and carry; focus on objects within 20 inches, shift focus, and distinguish colors as needed to perform assigned experiments.
- Requires US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Education/Experience on the Job: High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience, or 2 years of Post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
