Overview:
The Mechanical/Sustaining Engineer I collaborates closely with Operations, Sustaining Engineering, and Quality Assurance teams to swiftly identify and address any challenges related to the design or manufacturing processes of production lines.
Key responsibilities include responding promptly to urgent matters, exercising sound judgment in problem-solving, managing the engineering change process, and escalating issues to management and relevant stakeholders when necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the processes involved in instrument manufacturing.
- Maintain and revise work instructions and production documentation, including device history records, certifications, and logs.
- Ensure adherence to work instructions, calibration, testing, ongoing quality enhancements, and change control procedures.
- Contribute to the optimization of processes, materials, and manufacturing strategies.
- Implement standardization and consistency across all production lines within the organization.
- Proactively assist Operations in initiatives aimed at growth and improvement.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is required, along with experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment, preferably within the medical device sector, and a solid understanding of FDA regulations.
Skills:
Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software and Enterprise Product Data Management (EPDM) systems is essential. Experience with ERP systems and knowledge of instrumentation and accessories is also required. Familiarity with manufacturing methodologies such as Statistical Process Control and Lean principles is beneficial.
Applicants should possess knowledge in at least two or three of the following engineering disciplines: injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, casting, machining, fluidics components, optical components, and motion control.
Strong communication skills are necessary to clarify issues and reach consensus with diverse audiences. The ability to listen and comprehend both technical and operational concerns is vital, along with the capability to meet deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively.
Experience in an entrepreneurial setting with limited resources, the ability to multitask, and a creative approach to problem-solving are highly valued. Familiarity with ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 quality systems is preferred.
Proficiency in MS Office applications and demonstrated problem-solving abilities in complex environments are essential.
Desired Skills:
Knowledge of mechanical design, fabrication techniques (such as injection molding and machining), fluidics/microfluidics, optics, electrical components, PCB design, measurement and inspection techniques, GD&T, and tolerance analysis, as well as project management methodologies.
Bruker offers a competitive salary as part of a comprehensive compensation package. The salary range for this full-time position is between $70,000 and $110,000, depending on various job-related factors, including education, training, experience, geographic location, skills, and job-related knowledge.
