Note: The starting pay for this role is at the minimum of the stated pay range. A higher salary may be considered based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate, as well as the City's step placement policy.

Employee Preference: Full-time City employees will be prioritized in the following order: major division, then department, followed by all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will be considered next. If there are no qualified internal candidates, external applicants will then be evaluated.

Job Summary:

This position is located within various departments of the City of Oklahoma City. This posting is intended to fill a current vacancy in the Building Management Division of the General Services Department. An eligibility list will also be created for future vacancies across other departments as per the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Responsibilities require journeyman-level skills and knowledge in plumbing acquired prior to employment. Key responsibilities include: installation, repair, and maintenance of water, gas, steam, and other piping systems. The employee works independently and is expected to maintain accurate records and prepare written estimates for materials required for various tasks. Assignments may be received verbally, through blueprints, or via written work orders. The Plumber may also lead other employees and frequently interacts with City personnel and external vendors. Work is reviewed by a supervisor upon completion to ensure adherence to established quality standards.

Veterans Preference:

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and meet the qualifications for the position will receive preference. To qualify for this preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

Job Requirements:

  • Proficient knowledge of plumbing fixtures, materials, and tools for various applications.
  • Ability to implement safety precautions during work.
  • Familiarity with plumbing practices and codes.
  • Skill in performing general and preventative maintenance on plumbing systems.
  • Competence in using tools and machinery related to the plumbing trade.
  • Ability to install and repair water, gas, steam, and other piping systems.
  • Capability to interpret blueprints, designs, and plumbing system diagrams.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Responsibility for work performed.
  • Ability to estimate materials required for jobs.
  • Accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with others.
  • Possession of a valid Journeyman Plumbing License.
  • Valid driver’s license (Operator).

Other Details:

An eligibility list will be established from this posting for candidates scoring 70 percent or higher. Multiple selection procedures may be used, with a minimum score of 70 percent required for each. The eligibility list will remain active for 180 days from the final selection procedure date.
