Starting Pay: The initial compensation for this role is set at the base of the specified pay range. Consideration for a higher salary may be given based on the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate, in accordance with the City's step placement policy.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is part of the Building Management Division within the General Services Department. Under the guidance of a direct supervisor, an eligibility list will be created for future vacancies, including those in other departments, in accordance with the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Candidates must possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary for operating, maintaining, inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting various air handling and heating systems before assuming the role. Key responsibilities include:

  • Inspecting, servicing, and maintaining hot water boilers, air conditioning, and ventilation systems.
  • Completing work orders, safety reports, inspection sheets, and other related documentation daily.
  • Maintaining building facilities and ensuring operational efficiency.

Supervision is limited, and the employee must take responsibility for their work. The Building Maintenance Mechanic I will frequently interact with City personnel and the public to address inquiries regarding ongoing work or to direct individuals to the appropriate departmental staff.

VETERANS PREFERENCE

Honorably discharged veterans from the United States Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City and meet the qualifications for this position will receive preference. To qualify for this preference, veterans must provide verification of honorable discharge prior to the closing of the vacancy announcement.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of air conditioning and heating system operations, including Building Automation Systems.
  • Proficiency in the safe use of electrical tools and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain heating and cooling systems effectively.

NOTE: Selected individuals who do not hold a valid State of Oklahoma Class IV Boiler Operator License will be required to obtain it within six months of hire, promotion, transfer, or demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon acquiring this license within the specified timeframe.
