POSITION OVERVIEW

The Mobile Healthcare Response Specialist operates within the Emergency Medical Services Transport Division of the City of Oklahoma City and is tasked with delivering co-response interventions for behavioral health emergencies, including but not limited to mental health crises and substance overdoses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handles incoming communications to the Crisis Call Diversion Center, 988 Dispatch, and other referral channels, determining the deployment of the Crisis Response Team or alternative response units.
  • Gathers comprehensive details regarding a client's circumstances through interviews and other pertinent sources, employing verbal de-escalation techniques as necessary to ensure effective engagement.
  • Conducts in-depth trauma-informed evaluations to assess behavioral health service requirements and the necessary level of treatment.
  • Develops crisis stabilization and safety strategies to support an individual's safe reintegration into the community.
  • Provides short-term case management services, including linkage, advocacy, and referrals to promote ongoing stabilization resources.
  • Actively engages in continued care, ensuring social and/or familial support when appropriate and available.
  • Educates family members about mental health symptoms, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Ensures timely processing of confidential patient health documentation as mandated by law.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least two (2) years of experience in community behavioral health or a related field, working with individuals facing substance use disorders, mental health challenges, disabilities, and/or housing instability.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Certification as a Behavioral Health Case Manager II from the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSA).
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (Operator).

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in technology, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective time management, scheduling, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain clear, concise routine reports and correspondence.
  • Capability to work independently, draft reports, complete electronic medical records, and document services within legally mandated timeframes.
  • Aptitude for building and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, community members, City personnel, and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders in various contexts.
  • Commitment to maintaining required certifications and licenses.
  • Awareness of current trends and developments in the behavioral health sector through ongoing training and education.
  • Adherence to departmental policies, ODMHSAS standards, confidentiality regulations, and funding source requirements.
  • Accountability for work performed and decisions made.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • May require prolonged periods of standing, walking, or using a telephone.
  • Potential exposure to various risks, including needles, body fluids, chemicals, and biological hazards.
  • Involves making critical decisions during emergency situations.
  • Occasional outdoor work, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • May require working beyond standard hours and on weekends.
  • Occasional travel for seminars and meetings may be necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to operate medical equipment and keyboards with dexterity.
  • Near vision sufficient to read documents and reports.
  • Effective communication skills for in-person and telephone interactions.
  • Visual acuity for tasks in low-light conditions.
  • Physical flexibility to maneuver in confined spaces and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stamina to endure long periods of standing and walking.
