About the Opportunity
The Network Engineer position necessitates substantial hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper hardware in supporting large-scale environments. Network Engineers are tasked with maintaining the FDIC network infrastructure to ensure a dependable, secure, and scalable environment that meets our customer's operational needs. Team members may occasionally work outside of regular hours to address system outages and critical infrastructure upgrades. This role may also require on-site presence on certain days.
Key Responsibilities of the Network Engineer
- Deliver advanced hardware and software support for network devices including Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, and NetScaler.
- Ensure clear, concise, and timely communication with clients to foster confidence in our team.
- Provide prompt and effective support and escalation for network systems.
- Diagnose and resolve issues affecting network systems within agreed-upon MTTR objectives.
- Contribute to resolution efforts during High or Critical Incidents and engage in root cause analysis.
- Collaborate closely with development and operational teams globally to ensure swift service restoration.
- Adhere to established processes and procedures to enhance service availability and overall system efficiency.
- Recommend technical solutions, architectural designs, and implementation strategies that can scale effectively.
- Monitor hardware patch levels for performance and vulnerabilities, creating tickets for necessary work activities.
- Support and maintain network and security systems on a 24/7 basis as assigned.
- Continuously develop expertise in emerging technologies and infrastructure implementation strategies.
- Enhance future incident resolution by identifying the need for new and improved knowledge articles.
- Participate in documenting network environments, including IPAM, DNS, WAN, LAN, WLAN, and other areas.
- Comply with all relevant legal and compliance requirements, policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.
- Demonstrate experience with BGP, OSPF, STP, TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP, along with Azure VNETs, Routing, and Firewalling.
- Exhibit effective time management and organizational skills, translating technical issues for business users.
- Work independently and collaboratively within a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Value diversity and function as a team member, capable of working on initiatives with minimal supervision.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment, seeking more effective ways to operate.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by management.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent professional experience (required).
Experience:
- 7+ years of relevant technical experience in Network Engineering or Security Engineering (required).
- Certifications: Two or more of the following are desired: CCNP, CCDP, CCIE, CCSP, CISSP, ITIL, or other related certifications (required).
Required Skills:
- Extensive experience in Data Center environments (Arista, Aruba, Cisco, Juniper).
- Extensive experience supporting WAN Routers and Layer 2/Layer 3 LAN switches (Arista, Aruba, Cisco, Juniper).
- Some experience with Wireless Access Points (Arista, Aruba, Cisco).
- Some experience with Firewall systems (Checkpoint, Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto).
- Some experience with Load-Balancing appliances (Cisco, NetScaler, F5).
- Extensive experience with monitoring, reporting, and ticketing tools (Solarwinds, OpsView, PRTG, SNOW-ITOM).
- Extensive experience with Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 troubleshooting of WAN circuits and Layer 2/Layer 3 LAN networks.
