The American Welding Society is in search of a skilled and driven individual to take on the role of Mechanical Fitter and Welder. This position plays a vital role in supporting our manufacturing and research initiatives.
How You Will Contribute
The Mechanical Fitter and Welder will serve as a technical resource for welding, fitting, inspecting, and assembling mechanical components and industrial equipment. This role may involve working independently or collaboratively based on project requirements.
- Conduct inspections of incoming components from suppliers to ensure they meet fabrication standards and verify the quality of outgoing products.
- Interpret and adhere to technical drawings and specifications to accurately fit and weld assemblies, while following established safety protocols.
- A commitment to safety in all tasks undertaken.
- The ability to work from sketches, diagrams, and verbal instructions to transform raw materials into finished products, performing welding operations on various structures and metals.
- Knowledge of welding procedures and assembly sequences to minimize distortion and enhance quality, utilizing techniques such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
- Experience in inspecting incoming parts for quality assurance and possessing the skills to measure components against specifications.
- Conduct reviews and inspections of outgoing products prior to shipment.
- Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment.
- Assist with logistics and shipping tasks as necessary.
- Possess the potential to obtain relevant certifications within a reasonable timeframe.
- Participate in safety meetings and fulfill training requirements, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor that reflects the values of the American Welding Society, with potential travel as required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of welding techniques ensuring high-quality welds that meet industry standards.
- Experience working with high-temperature materials and specialty alloys.
- Familiarity with various tools and equipment, including hand tools, measuring devices, and welding machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and perform necessary calculations.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong organizational skills to manage unexpected tasks effectively.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or trade school certification, with additional training or certifications being advantageous.
- Several years of experience in welding and fitting, particularly with stainless steels and high nickel alloys.
