How You Will ContributeThe Mechanical Assembly Specialist will serve as a technical resource for welding, fitting, inspecting, and assembling mechanical components, parts, and industrial combustion systems. This role requires both independent work and collaboration with team members based on project needs.
- Conducts inspections of incoming components from suppliers to ensure they meet stringent fabrication standards and verifies outgoing products.
- Interprets and adheres to technical drawings and specifications to accurately fit and weld assemblies, following established safety protocols.
A successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualities:
- Prioritizes safety in all tasks and activities.
- Utilizes sketches, diagrams, and verbal instructions to fabricate components into finished products, performing welding on various structures and metal parts.
- Understands welding techniques and assembly sequences to minimize distortion and enhance quality. Proficient in various welding methods including gas-metal arc (stick, MIG, TIG), semi-robotic, brazing, and soldering.
- Regularly inspects incoming parts from vendors to ensure quality and facilitate assembly, possessing the skills to measure components against specifications and report findings.
- Reviews and inspects outgoing products prior to shipment.
- Performs routine maintenance on welding equipment.
- Assists with logistics and shipping tasks as needed.
- Possesses the potential to obtain necessary certifications within a reasonable timeframe.
- Participates in safety meetings and completes required safety training, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Exhibits a professional demeanor that reflects Cabot's values. Occasional travel may be required.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of welding techniques and procedures, ensuring high-quality welds that can pass non-destructive testing.
- Experience with high-temperature materials and specialty alloys.
- Familiarity with tools and equipment, including hand and power tools, measuring instruments, welding positioners, overhead cranes, plasma cutters, and torches.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and perform necessary calculations.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Strong organizational skills to adapt work schedules to meet unexpected demands.
- A minimum of a High School or Trade School diploma; completion of relevant apprenticeship or certification programs is highly advantageous.
- Experience as a welder/fitter, particularly with stainless steels and high nickel alloys.
