Your Role at Cabot

Cabot Corporation is in search of a skilled and driven individual to take on the role of a Mechanical Fitter and Welder within the Burner Technology Group. This position is integral to supporting Cabot's Manufacturing and R&D divisions.

How You Will Make an Impact

The Mechanical Fitter and Welder will serve as a technical and mechanical expert in the welding, fitting, inspection, and assembly of mechanical components, including complete industrial combustion burners and other machinery. This role may involve working independently or collaboratively based on project requirements.
  • Conducts inspections of incoming components from suppliers to ensure they meet essential fabrication standards and evaluates outgoing products from Cabot.
  • Interprets and adheres to technical drawings and specifications to assemble and weld parts and subassemblies as designed, following established safety protocols.
A successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualities:
  • A commitment to a safety-first approach in all tasks.
  • The ability to work from sketches, diagrams, and verbal instructions to transform raw materials into finished products, performing welding operations on various structures and metal components.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques and assembly sequences to minimize distortion and enhance quality. Proficient in various welding methods such as gas-metal arc (stick, MIG, TIG), semi-robotic welding, brazing, and soldering.
  • Experience in inspecting incoming parts from both commercial and specialty vendors to ensure quality and facilitate assembly. Capable of measuring and gauging components against specifications and reporting findings.
  • Conducts reviews and inspections of outgoing products prior to shipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance on welding equipment.
  • May assist with logistics tasks as needed, including crating and forklift operations.
  • Possesses the potential to obtain relevant certifications within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Participates in scheduled safety meetings and fulfills safety training requirements, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Exhibits a professional demeanor that reflects Cabot's values. Occasional travel may be required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of welding techniques and procedures, ensuring high-quality welds that can pass x-ray or other non-destructive testing.
  • Experience working with high-temperature materials and specialty alloys.
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment, including hand and power tools, measuring devices, welding positioners, overhead cranes, plasma cutters, and torches.
What You Will Bring to Cabot
  • Ability to read, interpret, and provide feedback on mechanical drawings; capable of performing necessary shop mathematics.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to adapt to unplanned tasks.
  • A minimum of a High School or Trade school diploma, with completion of related apprenticeship, journeyman, or master training being highly advantageous.
  • Several years of experience as a welder/fitter, particularly with stainless steels, high nickel alloys, and related materials.
