How You Will Contribute

The Welding Technician will serve as a technical and mechanical expert in the areas of welding, fitting, inspecting, and assembling mechanical components, including complete industrial combustion systems and other mechanical apparatus. This role may involve working independently or collaborating with team members based on project requirements.
  • Conduct inspections of incoming components from suppliers to verify that they meet critical fabrication standards, as well as outgoing products manufactured by the organization.
  • Interpret and adhere to technical drawings and specifications to assemble and weld components as designed, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
A successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualities:
  • A commitment to safety in all work activities.
  • The ability to work from sketches, diagrams, and verbal instructions to transform materials into finished products, executing welding tasks on various structures and metal components.
  • A thorough understanding of welding techniques and assembly sequences to minimize distortion and enhance quality. Proficiency in various welding methods such as gas-metal arc (stick, MIG, TIG), semi-robotic welding, brazing, and soldering is essential.
  • Experience in inspecting incoming materials from various vendors to ensure quality and facilitate efficient assembly processes. Capability to measure and assess components against specifications and document findings.
  • Review and inspect outgoing products prior to shipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment.
  • Assist with logistics and shipping tasks as required.
  • Potential to obtain relevant certifications within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Participate in scheduled safety meetings and fulfill safety training obligations, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor that reflects the values of the organization. Occasional travel may be necessary.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of welding procedures and techniques to ensure high-quality welds that meet rigorous standards.
  • Experience working with high-temperature materials and specialty alloys.
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment related to welding, including hand and power tools, measuring instruments, welding positioners, and plasma cutting devices.
What You Will Bring to the American Welding Society
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and perform necessary calculations.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage unexpected demands effectively.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or trade school certification, with additional training or certification in welding being highly advantageous.
  • Several years of experience as a welder/fitter, particularly with stainless steels, high nickel alloys, and related materials.
