HOURS:
Full-time, Non-exempt; hourly
Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

For over 75 years, Catholic Family and Community Services has dedicated itself to delivering a wide range of essential services to individuals facing adversity, families in distress, and communities in need. Our organization operates across various New Jersey counties, including Passaic, Morris, and Sussex, providing professional social services such as Behavioral Health Programs, Veterans Services, Children's Programs, Senior and Aging Services, and more.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
The primary aim of this role is to offer a comprehensive and effective defense against eviction for vulnerable low-income renter households. This is achieved by integrating best practices in eviction prevention, resource navigation, and diversion, along with enhanced access to legal advice or representation, into a cohesive and immediate support system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Conduct outreach to tenants who have received eviction notices due to new landlord-tenant filings.
  2. Participate in landlord-tenant court sessions to assist eligible households with rental assistance applications, eviction prevention income certifications, access to legal services, mediation, and homeless diversion, including rapid rehousing.
  3. Engage with clients face-to-face and/or virtually to assess their needs, develop budgets, and create Housing Stabilization Plans, providing necessary housing stabilization services.
  4. Maintain and update housing stabilization plans, case files, and monthly statistical reports. Ensure all client information is accurately entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) with timely reporting of services provided and case outcomes.
  5. Devise innovative solutions to effectively prevent eviction.
  6. Process client flex funds promptly to cover essential arrears and avert eviction.
  7. Maintain consistent communication with the Eviction Prevention office.
  8. Work independently while adhering to policies and procedures with precision.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of Catholic Charities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Preferred college degree; at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  2. Ability to complete tasks accurately and meet deadlines.
  3. Familiarity with community resources, rental assistance, and homeless prevention programs.
  4. Proficient in utilizing technology for virtual service delivery and documentation.
  5. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  6. Basic computer skills and experience with relevant software.
  7. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • General office setting. Compliance with COVID-19 protocols is required, including the use of PPE, social distancing, and a flexible work schedule that may include remote work.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Local travel may be required as needed.
  • This position is contingent upon grant availability.
