Position Summary
This opportunity is tailored for candidates at the Assistant Officer Level.
Department Insight
The Americas Division operates within the New York Branch of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, overseeing corporate functions and U.S. entities. This division includes specialized units such as the Global Banking Unit and the Global Markets Unit, which handle various business operations. The Real Estate Finance Department is tasked with the origination, booking, and oversight of credit facilities for both bilateral and syndicated real estate loan transactions, focusing on portfolio asset management in the real estate sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct screening and underwriting processes, including financial modeling and sponsor analysis, to prepare credit applications for diverse real estate loans across multiple asset classes such as multifamily, industrial/logistics, and office properties.
- Ensure adherence to relevant investment guidelines and directives from senior management.
- Monitor assigned credits to uphold credit quality through both qualitative and quantitative assessments, including property cash flow analysis, rent roll evaluations, budget reviews, sponsor financial statement analysis, and market research.
- Prepare comprehensive applications and reports for assigned credits, providing recommendations on amendments, refinancing, and ongoing activities.
- Oversee all monitoring and reporting obligations for Head Office and Branch, including rating reviews, documentation assessments, regulatory compliance, and financial portfolio reviews, with assistance from designated Operations Analysts.
- Engage in business development activities, which may include attending client meetings, site visits, and industry conferences.
- Support or participate in deal structuring activities as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of finance and fundamental accounting principles.
- Familiarity with research tools such as Bloomberg, Capital IQ, and rating agencies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of corporate finance and real estate loan markets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Access) along with financial modeling skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
