Position Overview:

Colliers Engineering & Design is on the lookout for a Senior Project Accountant to enhance our team. This pivotal role involves collaborating closely with project managers and accounting personnel to deliver comprehensive financial support and analysis. Key responsibilities include the examination and reconciliation of billing and revenue discrepancies, executing revenue recognition tasks during month-end closures, and partnering with project leadership to oversee project management and budgeting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and document project billing and revenue discrepancies, assisting project managers in resolving issues.
  • Research and record Work In Progress (WIP) versus unbilled variances, ensuring timely processing of billings.
  • Oversee monthly revenue recognition for assigned projects, including the investigation, documentation, and resolution of any issues that arise.
  • Assist in the setup of complex projects and tasks within our accounting software.
  • Ensure project setups in the system comply with contractual agreements.
  • Prepare preliminary invoices for Project Managers and collaborate on necessary modifications. Billing will primarily involve highly complex projects.
  • Contract billing may encompass various structures, including time & material, cost-plus fixed fee, lump sum, and fixed unit terms.
  • Review invoices from subconsultants to confirm compliance with project contractual terms and accurate coding.
  • Finalize and submit client invoices, which may require additional spreadsheets, forms, and expense documentation.
  • Work alongside Project Managers to monitor and report on the financial status of their projects.
  • Support budgeting and pricing efforts for projects.
  • Assist with forecasting, backlog management, and burn rate analysis.
  • Provide analysis on staff utilization.
  • Conduct project close-out analysis.
  • Review complex client invoices for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in gathering information for internal and external audits as necessary.
  • Train other staff members as needed.
  • May involve supervising project accounting personnel.
  • Execute additional accounting tasks or special projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance.
  • Associate's Degree with relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Project Accountant II responsibilities, demonstrating proficiency in essential duties.
  • Experience in the Architectural/Engineering/Construction (A/E/C) sector is preferred.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English for effective communication in job-related contexts.

Compensation: $66,000 - $91,000, dependent on qualifications.
