Laboratory Support Technician

Position Summary
The Laboratory Support Technician plays a crucial role in facilitating the smooth operation of the laboratory. Responsibilities may encompass the collection of patient samples, processing of laboratory specimens, managing patient registration, and conducting CLIA waived testing within the lab environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately collects and processes patient blood samples through venipuncture and/or capillary puncture in a timely manner.
- Efficiently handles non-blood patient specimens, ensuring precision and promptness.
- Assists in the preparation, receipt, and transportation of patient specimens.
- Manages patient registration processes.
- Provides courteous phone support for patient care departments.
- Maintains proficiency with hospital and laboratory information systems essential for job functions.
- Trains new team members and students on departmental standard operating procedures.
Physical Demands
This position requires working in a dynamic clinical setting, which may involve exposure to biohazardous materials as well as chemical, fire, and mechanical risks. The role may necessitate standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting loads ranging from light (20 pounds) to moderately heavy (50 pounds). Some exposure to latex may occur. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when handling patient specimens.
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED is required; certification in phlebotomy is preferred in facilities where phlebotomy duties are assigned.
