Bakery Department Manager Job Summary

As a Bakery Department Manager, you'll play a key role in setting the department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead by example and create a positive atmosphere that encourages employees to engage with customers.
  • Develop and implement department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate department employees.
  • Collaborate with the store director to determine department goals and objectives.
  • Inspect signage and displays for quality and quantity of merchandise and order product for replenishment.
  • Communicate with employees regarding sales and ideas.
  • Handle and resolve customer issues.
  • Ensure proper temperatures and storage procedures are maintained to guarantee freshness and control shrink of product.
  • Understand and troubleshoot equipment and ensure maintenance is performed.
  • Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Ensure pricing is competitive in the market area.
  • Attend meetings and seminars and participate in continuing education.
  • Fills displays and works in the sales area.
  • Unloads trucks, checks in delivered merchandise, and places product in appropriate storage area.
  • Performs departmental duties as needed.
  • Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
Requirements:
  • High school or equivalent experience from on-the-job training, sanitation courses, and over one year of related work experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Possess the ability to compose original correspondence and interpret written work instructions.
Working Conditions:

This position is frequently exposed to temperature extremes and dampness. There are possible equipment movement hazards from a pallet jack, electrical shock, and exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. This is a fast-paced work environment.
