Job Overview

Position Summary

The Financial Controller is tasked with managing the accounting functions of the organization, which includes the generation of financial statements, upkeep of a robust accounting record system, and a comprehensive set of controls aimed at minimizing risk, ensuring the accuracy of the company's financial disclosures, enhancing efficiency and profitability, and guaranteeing compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight and Reporting

  • Oversee the financial reporting process across various divisions, including Private Aviation, Food Service Management, Commercial Aviation, and Corporate Catering. This encompasses weekly performance scorecards, month-end financial reporting, budget preparation, and interim forecasts.
  • Assist senior management in formulating business strategies, annual budgets, and monthly financial forecasts.
  • Prepare financial statements and forecasts while monitoring financial performance to ensure adherence to lender requirements in support of growth initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering an environment of trust and productivity.

Control and Compliance

  • Manage and supervise all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with applicable GAAP standards and regulatory mandates.
  • Implement internal control measures for revenue receipt, expenditure management, and adherence to both team and organizational budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Identify areas of control weakness and initiate cost control measures.
  • Evaluate internal control procedures and collaborate with vendors and outsourced service providers:
  • Accounts Payable – oversee the complete AP process to manage food costs, labor, and operational expenses.
  • Billing – ensure accuracy in direct data entry.
  • Payroll – maintain controls around time and attendance systems, ensuring quality data input into the HRIS.
  • General Ledger – monitor transactions and accounts within QuickBooks.

Analysis and Performance Enhancement

  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor material and labor costs by division.
  • Analyze financial trends, define corrective actions, and recommend improvements to operational and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with operations on financial analysis, capital expenditure requests, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Ensure robust controls are in place to protect the financial assets of the organization.
  • Guarantee timely month-end closing and financial reporting.
  • Review balance sheet accounts monthly to confirm proper reconciliation and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct analysis of profit and loss accounts to support the month-end process, including cost analysis and evaluation.
  • Provide comprehensive financial reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, including labor, cost of goods sold, and other operating expense analyses in clear formats.
  • Ensure that purchase order approval processes and general expense controls are implemented and adhered to by all team members.
  • Oversee the company’s procurement platform.
  • Support both internal and external audits.
  • Educate the operations team on all necessary financial systems and controls to maximize profitability.
  • Engage in ad hoc projects as directed.
  • Drive productivity goals through regular reviews with executive management and process owners.
  • Assist in labor planning based on anticipated business changes.

Customer Profitability Analysis

  • Review pricing strategies for clients and assist the executive team in pricing decisions.
  • Support the executive team in maintaining effective profit and loss analysis by customer.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of demonstrated accounting experience.
  • 5+ years in a senior-level accounting or finance management role.
  • At least three years of experience in finance within the food and beverage hospitality sector.
  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting certification such as CMA, CGA, or CPA.
  • Familiarity with finance laws and regulatory standards (GAAP).
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong understanding of economic and banking principles.
  • Proven ability in month-end financial preparation and analysis, annual budgeting, and facility accounting functions.
  • Process-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Resourceful problem solver with a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Accountable with a track record of setting and achieving high standards.
  • Experience in payroll management with a focus on streamlining accounting processes.
  • Demonstrated history of managing financial projects effectively.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting.
