Job Summary

Gastroenterology Associates, P.A. is seeking a highly skilled Health Information Management and Eligibility Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Health Information Management Department, you will be responsible for preparing and scanning documents into patients' medical charts accurately and completely into an Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and scan documents into patients' medical charts
  • Check charts for appointments and ensure all records are complete
  • Obtain records from referring providers and hospitals as needed
  • Fax records to other entities
  • Print records as requested for physicians, nurses, and patients
  • Handle certified mail
  • Assist in various other duties in the Health Information Management Department
  • Verify insurance accuracy and eligibility for upcoming appointments and procedures
Requirements
  • High School degree
  • Minimum one year of medical records clerk/health information technician experience, preferably in a medical practice setting
  • Knowledge of scanning equipment and computers
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read and interpret medical charts
  • Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to work under pressure and resolve problems
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines
Working Conditions
  • Requires continuous interaction with computer terminal
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Requires correct vision and hearing to normal range
  • Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting boxes and equipment up to 25lbs
  • Requires occasional bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling in the office
