The Animal Care and Customer Services Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being of animals while delivering exceptional service to clients. This position is integral to the operations of our adoption center, focusing on both animal care and customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by assisting clients, addressing inquiries, and clarifying procedures.
  • Support clients by providing information about Michigan Humane programs and community resources.
  • Welcome all visitors and callers with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Guide potential adopters through the adoption process, ensuring their needs are met and all paperwork is completed.
  • Handle financial transactions related to adoptions and intakes responsibly.
  • Provide humane treatment and care for all animals in our facility.
  • Maintain cleanliness by regularly cleaning and disinfecting animal living areas and public spaces.
  • Feed, exercise, and socialize animals according to established schedules.
  • Prepare enrichment activities to alleviate stress for animals in the shelter.
  • Ensure the facility is well-stocked with necessary supplies at the end of each shift.
  • Collect lab samples as required.
  • Administer medications and assist with vaccinations under supervision.
  • Assist in the safe handling and restraint of animals when necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and emotionally charged environment.
  • Compassionate approach towards both animals and people in sensitive situations.
  • Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on diplomacy and tact.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Visual acuity to interpret animal body language accurately.
  • Availability to work weekends.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with animals is advantageous.
