This esteemed opportunity seeks a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director, Accounting to join our team as an operational accounting lead. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, you will play a pivotal role in managing various monthly and quarterly close tasks, enhancing our current close process to support a public company, and tackling ad hoc projects. This role demands a high degree of hands-on involvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial statement preparation by overseeing the monthly and quarterly financial close processes, reviewing key areas of judgment, and performing general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Lead the revenue recognition process for our licensing and commercialization agreements with partners, collaborating cross-functionally to understand program assumptions and potential revenue impacts.
  • Manage accruals processes, including PO accruals, through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statement flux analysis (Balance Sheet and Income Statement) and other financial analyses.
  • Conduct department spending analysis to ensure correct GL account and department coding, as well as accurate accrual purposes.
  • Develop and implement corporate accounting policies and procedures, ensuring seamless documentation and maintenance.
  • Oversee internal financial control compliance (SOX 404(a)), working closely with consultants to strengthen internal controls and maintain an effective control environment.
  • Pursue process/system improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function.
  • Foster strong relationships with business partners across various accounting processes.
  • Support a high-performing accounting team, motivating direct and indirect reports, and guiding them in professional development opportunities.
  • Lead external auditor request responses.
  • Collaborate with the extended finance team to ensure adherence to timely close and reporting processes, respond promptly to internal/external audit requests, and execute team objectives.
  • Review and support annual proxy supporting schedules and other SEC filings, ensuring accurate financial information.
  • Participate in financial systems implementation.
  • Develop and maintain detailed accrual processes to accurately reflect clinical and non-clinical study-related costs in financial statements.

  • Previous employment at a public biotech/pharma company required; experience with accounting at an early-stage company preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, balancing team and individual responsibilities, giving and welcoming feedback, prioritizing team success over personal interests, and sharing expertise with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and an active CPA license are mandatory requirements.
  • 10+ years of related accounting experience and 3-5 years of Big 4 auditing experience are necessary.
