Position Overview
We are in search of a skilled Internal Auditor who will be responsible for conducting financial, operational, and compliance audits across various departments and functions within The Johns Hopkins Institutions, adhering to the Annual Audit Plan.

Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of senior team members, the Internal Auditor will:

  • Assist in the planning of internal audits by collecting relevant background information from institutional data sources.
  • Perform thorough analyses of assigned tasks and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Contribute to the development of internal audit programs and timelines based on evaluations of financials and business risks.
  • Monitor allocated time for audits and provide regular updates on progress.
  • Identify critical control points within the systems being audited.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of processes and systems, comparing them as necessary.
  • Assess risks effectively.
  • Execute audit procedures in accordance with established work programs, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Document operational practices through interviews, observations, and testing.
  • Test transactions using both automated and traditional auditing techniques, analyzing the results.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software for audit tasks.
  • Investigate and analyze issues to determine root causes and contributing factors.
  • Prepare clear and organized audit working papers that support findings and conclusions.
  • Formulate practical recommendations for management's corrective actions, considering appropriate criteria and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to management through concise written and verbal reports.
  • Draft formal reports detailing the adequacy and effectiveness of processes and the efficiency of operations.
  • Assist in follow-up audits to assess the implementation of management's action plans.
  • Work independently while providing timely updates to project leads or directors regarding progress and challenges.
  • Support fellow auditors in executing assigned projects as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field is required, along with three years of auditing experience or four years of accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the non-profit, higher education, or healthcare sectors is preferred.

Physical Requirements
The role requires sitting for extended periods, reaching in various directions, and manual dexterity for tasks such as typing. Strong communication skills, the ability to see and hear within normal ranges, and mobility are essential. Transportation to various locations may be necessary.
