Position Overview:
We are in search of a dedicated Internal Auditor who will conduct thorough financial, operational, and compliance audits across various organizational sectors within The Johns Hopkins Institutions. This role is essential in ensuring adherence to the Annual Audit Plan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in the audit planning process by collecting relevant background information from institutional information systems and other sources.
- Perform comprehensive analyses of assigned tasks and provide actionable recommendations.
- Assist in the development of internal audit programs and timelines based on evaluations of financial data and business risks.
- Monitor allocated time for audits and deliver regular updates on progress.
- Identify critical control points within the systems being audited and develop a deep understanding of processes to compare them effectively.
Audit Execution:
- Execute audit procedures as per the established audit program, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Document current operational practices through interviews, observations, and testing.
- Test transactions using both automated and traditional auditing methods, analyzing the results thoroughly.
- Prepare clear and concise audit working papers that include adequate documentation to support findings and conclusions.
Communication and Reporting:
- Formulate sound recommendations for management based on identified issues, using appropriate criteria and cost-benefit analyses.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to management in a clear and logical manner, both in writing and verbally.
- Prepare formal reports that assess the adequacy and effectiveness of processes and the efficiency of operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of auditing experience or four years in accounting.
- Preferred experience in non-profit, higher education, or healthcare sectors.
- Professional certification or progress towards certification (e.g., CPA, CIA) is advantageous.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and auditing software.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Must be able to provide transportation as required.
