GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides pivotal leadership for physician services across Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital (HFWH). This role champions the enhancement of care quality, comprehensive healthcare delivery, and patient safety, ensuring that patient expectations are not only met but exceeded. The CMO collaborates closely with senior leadership and medical staff leaders within Henry Ford Health (HFH) to establish strategic directions in medical staff engagement, encompassing medical staff development, alignment, succession planning, and accreditation. The CMO also acts as a clinical resource for various system service line leaders, fostering collaboration across operational, performance improvement, quality, patient care services, nursing, and clinical areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a medical executive, reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer of Henry Ford Health, while partnering with the Hospital President and Chief Nursing Officer to guide the strategic development and achievement of goals related to medical staff development and engagement.
  • Facilitate leadership initiatives that support the strategic vision of the CEO and CMO, promoting physician alignment, engagement, and leadership development.
  • Oversee the recruitment and development of medical staff, focusing on areas such as graduate medical education and clinical leadership orientation.
  • Engage with System administrative and clinical leadership to address quality, safety, and patient care experience responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Performance Improvement, Quality, Safety, and Clinical Operations to develop regional clinical outcome indicators and care management strategies.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement through process redesign and team leadership, enhancing service delivery.
  • Advise governance and management on the development of patient care programs that effectively meet community needs.
  • Participate in the selection and performance management processes within the assigned Market region.
  • Represent HFH in external forums, applying clinical expertise to enhance patient care and leverage funding opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and compliance programs to ensure ethical and professional conduct.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree, with board certification in a clinical specialty. Advanced training in public health or administration is preferred.
  • A minimum of seven to ten years of successful clinical practice and at least five years of executive leadership experience is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare trends, physician-hospital relationships, and quality improvement processes is essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills are necessary for building productive partnerships across all levels of management and staff.
  • Strong communication, persuasion, and negotiation skills are required to advocate for high-quality patient care and safety.
  • The candidate must thrive in a collaborative leadership environment, demonstrating integrity and the ability to inspire others.
