GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital (HFWH) provides strategic leadership for all physician services. This role is pivotal in championing the enhancement of care quality, comprehensive healthcare delivery, and patient safety, ensuring that patient expectations are not only met but exceeded. The CMO collaborates closely with senior leadership and medical staff leaders to set strategic directions in medical staff engagement, which encompasses medical staff development, alignment, succession planning, and accreditation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a medical executive, reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer of Henry Ford Health, while partnering with the Hospital President and Chief Nursing Officer to achieve strategic goals for medical staff development and engagement.
  • Lead initiatives that support the strategic vision of the organization, focusing on physician alignment, leadership development, and succession planning.
  • Oversee the recruitment and development of medical staff, including graduate medical education and clinical leadership orientation.
  • Address the complexities of the evolving healthcare delivery system, fostering discussions among healthcare providers and administrators to enhance quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with Performance Improvement, Quality, Safety, and Clinical Operations teams to establish clinical outcome indicators and improve care management strategies.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement through process redesign and team leadership, enhancing service delivery and patient care quality.
  • Advise governance and management on the development of patient care programs that effectively meet community needs.
  • Engage in the selection and performance management processes within the assigned market region.
  • Represent the organization in external forums, applying clinical expertise to secure funding and influence national policy.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and compliance standards to ensure ethical and professional conduct.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) with board certification in a clinical specialty; advanced training in public health or administration is preferred.
  • A minimum of seven to ten years of clinical practice experience and at least five years in executive leadership roles, including fiscal and medical staff management.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare trends, physician-hospital relationships, and quality improvement processes is essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to build productive partnerships across all management levels.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to navigate differing opinions and expectations.
  • Excellent communication, persuasion, and negotiation skills, with a commitment to high-quality patient care and safety.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative leadership environment, characterized by integrity and the capacity to inspire others.
