POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance and oversight of the designated Registered Nurse (RN), the Nurse Assistant is responsible for executing specific patient care tasks to ensure the safety and comfort of patients. This role involves contributing insights to aid the RN in the planning and execution of patient care. The Nurse Assistant is trained to respond to urgent situations in accordance with established protocols and is encouraged to engage in ongoing education. Adherence to the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence is expected in all interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting blood draws
- Monitoring vital signs
- Performing venipuncture and chemstick procedures
- Participating in team roundings
- Identifying and communicating concerns related to patients, staff, and self to the responsible RN
UNIT OVERVIEW:
The 6th Floor is a 48-bed Medical Surgical Unit, where nursing staff are versatile and capable of supporting patients through various stages of care. Patients may be treated for a range of conditions, including post-surgical recovery, acute infectious diseases requiring intravenous antibiotics, and chronic conditions experiencing exacerbations. Additionally, care is provided to patients in need of end-of-life support. This unit fosters an environment where both new and experienced nurses can enhance their knowledge and skills, facilitating adaptability to change—an essential competency for career advancement within the unit or in other areas of the healthcare system.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- CNA certification is preferred.
- Completion of a Nurse Assistant training program (alternative titles may include Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT), all fulfilling the same role).
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
- Foreign-trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States without a Michigan RN license.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program, with or without prior experience.
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar role.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED:
- Completion of BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
