POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive HVAC engineering solutions that encompass all stages of the construction lifecycle, from initial design to system commissioning. Reporting to a Senior Project Manager within the Mechanical Engineering Department, this role is integral to the Engineering team at Energy 1, where our commitment is to Demand Better. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Mechanical Engineer will be expected to:

  • Collaborate effectively with the design team, mentor junior designers, and guide mechanical staff in their professional development.
  • Oversee all designs under their supervision, ensuring clear communication with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Manage the mechanical team’s project assignments and timelines, while adapting to project demands.
  • Work alongside a Project Manager to create detailed mechanical engineering and construction documents, providing support throughout the construction phase for various project types, including residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and healthcare.
  • Design and draft mechanical and plumbing systems, including forced air and hydronic systems, sanitary drainage, domestic water, and fuel gas piping systems.
  • Conduct mechanical system design analyses, including heating/cooling load calculations, energy modeling, and compliance verification with energy codes.
  • Produce complete, code-compliant project documentation, including drawings and specifications for permitting, bidding, and construction purposes.
  • Perform construction administration tasks such as field inspections, submittal reviews, and project closeouts.
  • Engage closely with owners, architects, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion.
  • Train and review the work of team members under their supervision.
  • Draft and edit project specifications in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to gather necessary information for timely and complete designs.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in mechanical and plumbing design.
  • Possession of a professional engineering license is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit (preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Familiarity with applicable building codes and industry standards, including International Building Codes and ASHRAE standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Site visits may be required as part of the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position is primarily office-based, with potential travel to various project sites as needed.
  • This role may require evening and weekend work on occasion.
